Hi Clare and Helen, I listened to this on a Friday night drive from Norfolk back to London. It was long and traffic laden so I was happy to have your company. I'm a x1.25 listener! Lots of interesting points as always. I'm always thinking about my productivity (or lack of) and setting myself unachievable goals. I think I am slowly learning to be a little freer with myself and with that comes a slow search for what it is I really want to write and how I go about it. Have been journaling about that this weekend.
After listening to your podcast I immediately listened to episode 60 of the London Writers Salon Podcast. I know you love a connection and the subjects discussed in this episode flowed perfectly from yours. Lots of chat about what the writers interview produce for free and how one of the authors has changed in what she is prepared to give away these days. Lots more beside. Highly recommend if you fancy a listen.
Angie, I love that we kept you company on a long journey! And at our most erudite sounding 1.25x 😂 Sounds like you're noticing and tuning in to a lot on your writing journey too. All this care and attention will pay off for us, I'm sure. Direction, creativity and productivity levels all working together must be within reach! Thanks so much for the podcast link––I do love a connection and that sounds spot on x
Another fab listen! This monthly treat always feels like a cosy chat with my writing friends - and yes, at double speed! Thank you so much, Claire and Helen! 😊😊
You are very welcome, Rebecca! Glad you enjoyed it and hope you caught your name check as you hurtled by at double speed! 😘😂 I tried 1.25x this week (softly, softly) and Helen is absolutely right that faster makes us sound cleverer! 😂😂
GOSH, did I miss my name?! Flip flops! That'll teach me to try to do everything at double speed - I was listening this morning while I was doing a load of meal prep, and didn't want to spend too long in the kitchen! I did smile to myself at two points, though - the bit about having a plan, and the bit about double speed - was it there somewhere? I'm going be listening again while I'm doing the ironing!!!! 🤣
I'm so slapdash, honestly - what am I like?????!!!!! 🤣
Ha!! Good job we didn’t announce that you’d won a million pounds! 😂 I think it was in relation to freedom in loose planning and the big old comments chat we had last week. (Please don’t feel you have to listen again ... although I guess twice at double speed is once at normal speed! 🙌🏻😂)
Thank you so much, Luisa. Always glad to hear that my thoughts/experience resonates and to know that I'm not alone. You're absolutely right that this doesn't feel bad, just a new challenge to navigate on the writing journey. Perhaps not even a new one, just that I know that I need and want to find a way through and not walk away this time. I think 'officially' building in creative headspace time should really help with that. I've been circling this awareness for a while, but not implementing it and now it's time! I find I even get bored with writing in the same place for too long, so have got myself all set up to use the office again, moving on from the kitchen table! Thank you for checking out my about/upgrade pages. Do you mean that the About page should be less IG-focused when you say direct to the creators here? I definitely can revisit that as it's been unchanged since I started in January and that was the only place I assumed my readers would come from! Already I bet my IG friends are a small proportion of the subscribers I've gained over the months.
Yes, I've been thinking about this. Claire, I love how you're peeling the onion on who you are as a writer. I wouldn't worry about audience as you're still making so many discoveries. I still write primarily for myself and my own journey and find my audience comes from that. If I try to write towards a specific audience I completely dry up! Keep being guided by your own creative intuition - I'm loving your journey.

Love this conversation. Luisa I think you’ve spotted something very interesting about Claire’s audience being less IG focused.
Definitely agree that we write for ourselves number one, and getting really excited about seeking out that blank space for creativity! Freedom!!💫

Staring at the sky all the way!! Enjoy!
