If you like Matthew Rhys, then can I recommend the film The Scapegoat. He is magnificent as doppelgangers John Standing, a failed teacher, and Johnny Spence, a failed businessman. It's really very compelling viewing!
Thank you so much for sharing my Substack this week, what a joy! (I'm also absolutely with you on the minor rebellion of staying up late issue - why do we behave like this?!)
I really enjoyed it Jude, so my pleasure to share. Can't wait to read more of your words. (Oh and it's actually 'a thing' ... revenge bedtime procrastination! 🤦🏼♀️ Glad to know I'm not alone!
Now you have me wondering if I have to watch more Dr Who! Love this clip, I am with you - the trifecta of Vincent, Bill Nighy & Matt Smith is fabulous. Thanks for all the links to explore. WTW always takes me way longer to read than it should - in the very best way of course :)
Sam! I love that you loved that clip! I will confess to watching it (and welling up!) at least four times yesterday! 🙈😂 Imagine Bill and Vincent's Excellent Adventure flying around in the Tardis ... now that I'd watch! So glad that you get so much out of WTW––genuinely heartened to hear that, thank you! x
Thank you so much for including me on this lovely round-up, I'm off to click the rest of your links. I have also been devouring all the post-Succession round-ups and break-downs, I wanted to write about it myself but I knew that if I started to write even one paragraph it'd be 24, 000 words before I knew it. I wonder how long I can keep my mouth shut. (I loved it so much!!!)
I’ve found some real gems this week Helen, and I really enjoyed putting this one together to share them with a new set of eyes. You’re always a gem, of course! 💎
I would love to read you write more about Succession, especially as someone, on the whole, didn't really love it. So it would be great to see it through your eyes. We've started rewatching The Last Kingdom and really enjoying it, again. Saying that, not seen the most recent season.
That is a very generous perspective, Silvia! Thank you for indulging me! 😂 But I do get that, I often want someone enthusiastic to ‘show me what I’ve missed’ when something doesn’t appear to land the same for me.
Great newsletter, Claire, thank you; and thank you so much for the mention, I appreciate it. I didn't realise when I commented on your comment on my piece that you'd written about Mrs Palfrey yourself. I've just very much enjoyed your newsletter on it. So many people have told me that they love it: we're part of a wonderful underground clique of people who value THAT Elizabeth Taylor.
Thank you so much for reading, Sam. Yes, I think I particularly enjoyed your Mrs P piece because I’d delved in myself. And I’m still staggered by your revelation that the film is set contemporaneously. Totally agree that the Claremont ‘at the time’ creates the setting/environment that makes the story. It made me think of Fawlty Towers when I was reading! Looking forward to reading more of your newsletters.

Suw, you are absolutely right he is magnificent in The Scapegoat! Really (in italics) enjoyed that. In fact ... https://claireholden.substack.com/p/what-this-week-12 😆
I agree with every word!!

Yes, I was already a fan after the Keanu piece and then this week you reveal you're a fellow Succession obsessive!
Love that you’re sharing your recent Substack reads this week. And thank you for sharing mine 🧡
