Such a lovely newsletter, thankyou for sharing. There's just something about being out in nature can shift your mindset. I need to get back out there soon 😫 I have felt exhausted this last month, wanting to nap at every opportunity. I can't remember the last time I had a proper walk.
Thank you Kelly, I loved writing this one! I think having walked that walked so often as well as my feet having the muscle memory, my head does the same and starts to let go. That shift in mindset as you say. I really hope you find the time and energy for a walk soon 💚
Lovely post! Walking in the open air with ears and eyes open is everything to me. Favourite line: ‘...driven my wellies to take me for a walk every morning...’ Wonderful, Claire!
What a beauty of an email Claire! Thank you .... yes that full moon was also the Snow Moon and I really did experience the mysterious misty non-shiny version of itself .. like waiting for some kind of veil to be removed. Just re-read Wintering which I loved even more the second time round. x
Thank you so much, Julie. This one wrote itself really! It just poured out. Waiting for a veil to be removed ... oh I love that! Wintering is so good to come back to. I think I'll pick it up again this year x
So pleased you shared this! Such a beautiful read, Claire. And a wonderful reminder for me to get back into nature next week. I’ve been going for daily walks nearby while in recovery but am ready to venture a little further 🥰
Thank you, Sarah! I'm so pleased this resonated. I'm glad you're getting out for daily walks, I haven't managed that over the school holidays and I'm really missing it. Looking forward to getting out on that magical canal path again soon 💚
A gorgeous read Claire, thank you for sharing. 🌺 As I mentioned previously, it's such a joy to see any wildlife out on walks isn't it? What a beautiful otter story. We have lived in this house in Mumbles for 18 months and for most of that time have had foxes just strolling around our garden or up the lane as if they own the place. We enjoyed watching all the cubs last summer (used to drive Lily mad watching them, she would obsessively be in fox 🦊 watch ) from our front porch, they were on a neighbour's lawn in the early evening and would sit there until about 11pm. They seem to have gone though.. haven't seen them for a while. I wonder if a new family are going to come and take up residence?
Such a lovely newsletter Claire. I also have been enjoying my woodland walks, even with a pesky puppy in tow!
I adore Braiding Sweet grass - I've been slowly listening to it for at least a year now 🤣 it is so intense and I feel I need a while for each chapter to sink in before embarking on another. I'm so glad you enjoyed Mrs Palfrey ❤️
I loved writing this one, Claire. To be honest, it pretty much wrote itself. Powered by magic, unlike this week's which was powered by slow, addling brain manipulation. Ah the joys of writing! Do you know I think that's much the better to enjoy Braiding Sweetgrass. I might have to get a shelf copy for a slow read. I read for book group so under time pressure and while it wowed me, I didn't have that time to sit with the power of her ideas.
Thank you so much! Absolutely amazing you're right. My daughter's been poorly all week and I can't wait to get back out for walks next week ... I've missed the magic!
What a magical walk! I love how nature often gifts us with what we need in the moment. Braiding Sweetgrass is one of my favorite books and I also really enjoyed Wintering. Last year I read Mirrors in the Earth by Asia Suler, which you might enjoy.
Thank you! That's exactly it––the gift we need, even when we didn't know we did! Thank you so much for the recommendation, I'll look out Mirrors in the Earth <3
Oh, I fully resonate with the tiredness. During the Full Moon, I was ready to push on the gas pedal and yet...my body was like hell no. Struck down with flu, bedbound, handbrake on, key tossed away. Oh, how I needed it. Funny, isn't it...life always gives us what we need. As for nature books, I do love a good nature read. "Braiding Sweet grass" was such a wonderful read. "I am an Island" is up there with the favourites too. And Stephen Moss's Robin. P.S. I hope you've been able to rest :)
Not much rest as yet, as you now know, with sick and snotty little friend. Hopefully it'll be a quiet and restorative week ahead. Obviously sorry that you've been so rough, but really interesting that you had that same almost counter-intuitive experience of the full moon. Thanks so much for the nature book recommendations. I'll check out "I am an island". I looked up Robin and saw there are others too. I'm very drawn to The Wren (as in, it's gone straight in an online bookshop basket!), so thank you!
go into each post for a particular section, click on Edit post, and one of the options is to put it in a section. As far as I can tell you have to do it one post at a time, which is a bit of a pain, but it works.
This is such a lovely post, Claire. I went out in the frost this week and saw a fabulous hare. The last time I saw a fox was when all my chickens and ducks had been killed by it. Even amongst my grief and horror I remember what a gorgeous specimen it was.
You know how I love my cosy crime - I’ve just finished The Twyford Code by Janice Hallett and it was marvellous.
Thank you, Helen. As you know this is not at all what I'd planned to write this week, but I kind of love it when that happens! Oh a hare! Now that's one I'd love to add to my sighting list. Definitely got to read those Halletts. Have gifted the first two but not read them myself. Very glad they have the Redfern discerning crime lover seal of approval x
Hope you had a wonderful walk, Luisa. Well earned after that mammoth assessment-writing week! You are definitely not alone with the 'empty earbuds' ... I do that too! Thanks for the recommendations. Will jot them all down. I have had an almanac before, the lockdown year, and definitely would like to get one each year. And thank you for reminding me about Earthed. I was desperate to read that when it came out. Promptly added to my library list! V grateful to you.

Thank you so much, Rebecca! I loved writing this one, it all sort of poured out. Wellies magic transferred to typing magic!

I can relate to this. It's amazing how Mother nature can boost our energy and inspire us, especially when we feel tired. Beautiful post. Thank you 🙏

Haha, love that. I do that with certain books. Not read The Wren but I might just have to now. Hope you enjoy it when you get around to it.
Love the photos, especially the one at the tip. I felt calm just looking at it.
Thanks, Terry! I have a camera roll FULL of photos of my canal walks. I use them as my phone wallpaper too, changing them up through the seasons.
Sounds great
Claire, when I clicked on the Newsletter tab in your 'stack I got "Page not found"
Ah yes, I haven't yet figured out how to direct my posts under the various tabs I set up to begin with. New platform, new learning curve!

Wow, I can’t believe you had such a close experience with a fox family. I hope they do return this year. Something very magical about them 🦊💫
